Kitt and Derak stood back to back. Aletheia laughed loudly. "Get them, my puppets!"

Kitt growled. "You take Moka, I take Zach."

"Why do you want Zach?" Derak asked. "He has beaten you in the Tournament."

"I know, but this time I will win!"

Zach and Moka dove on their friends. Derak had no trouble beating Moka up, but Kitt had a lot more trouble! Both had almost the same strength.

Moka crashed against the floor. Derak wanted to turn to Kitt to help her, but Aletheia raised her hand. "Arise, my servant! Serve your queen! The queen of truth!"

Moka stood up, completely with new power. He attacked Derak in the back. Derak cursed and flipped Moka over his back. Moka flew against Kitt, who crashed against the sand.

"Sorry!" Derak quickly apologised when Kitt looked at him with an evil look. But Kitt had no time to get even, because Zach attacked again!

Again, Derak managed to knock Moka down. This time, without Aletheia interfering, Moka stood up again. Aletheia laughed again. "You fool, you are making him even stronger! This was the work-out he needed!"

"Huh?" Derak gasped. "I don't get it!" Moka knocked his sunglasses off.

"You fool!" Kitt yelled. "You are training Moka! He learns!"

Derak kicked Moka. "Then what should I do? Stop fighting?"

"Hell no!" Kitt screamed. "Kick his butt! When the spell is gone, we can use his new strength!"

At that moment, Moka stepped on Derak's sunglasses. "My glasses!" Derak yelled and became red of anger. He attacked Moka. "You creep! My sister gave me those glasses before she vanished! I'll kill you!"

Suddenly, Kitt managed to kick Zach down. She breathed heavily, trying to get more air, but she was exhausted. She looked at Zach. He was still lying on the floor. "Well..." She sighed. "I've finally beaten you...."

Aletheia raised her arm. "You haven't won yet! Arise!"

Scared, Kitt saw Zach standing up again. All of a sudden, her knees couldn't support her any more. She fell on the ground, breathing heavily.

Aletheia sat down. "Haha! I'm a better liar than I thought! I'm going to win this!"

"You are the worst liar." She suddenly heard. She looked and saw Mika standing between the trees. "I don't think you are going to win this."

"Oh?" Aletheia asked. "Why do you think that? Isn't it obvious?" She pointed at Zach and Moka, who stood still, waiting for a command. "Your friends are exhausted."

"You are wrong!" Mika raised her arm and a bracelet appeared around her wrist. "Gem Shatter!" Millions of small sharp gems headed to Aletheia.

Aletheia was hit, surprisingly. She kneeled down, but stood up again. "Well done sweetie." She smiled. "But you are wrong. I'm going to win. Sun Blast!"

"Gem Shatter!"

A ball of fire blasted to Mika, while a dozen of new shards headed to Aletheia. In the middle of the oasis, the attacks blasted against each other. The shards made the light of Aletheia's attack stronger and blinded everybody. A huge explosion followed and everybody crashed against the rocks and the ground.

Aletheia crawled back up. She saw the 5 humans lying on the floor, not moving. "I told you I was going to win. Now burn in this sun!" Laughing she vanished, leaving the others behind.

It was dark. A bowl of water was put against Zach's lips. He slowly opened his eyes. He saw a friendly smiling girl.

"Who are you?" He asked with a dry voice. The girl didn't say anything, but smiled again.

Zach raised himself and looked around. He saw Derak, crying over his broken glasses. To his other side, he saw Mika and Moka sitting close to each other. Zach smiled. If only they knew what he knew.

Zach tried to think. He knew he was missing something, but he couldn't remember what. He thought deeply. Slowly, it became clear again. The desert, Aletheia, he even remembered being forced to fight Kitt... Wait a minute! Where was Kitt?

"Kitt?" Zach tried to scream and wanted to get up. A boy walked at him.

"Hey, slow down!" He said. "What's the rush? You are lucky we found you."

"Kitt?" Zach asked concerned again. "Where is Kitty?" This was the first time he said her full name.

"Who?" The boy asked. "You probably mean that girl with firey hair. She'll probably wake up any minute." He pointed at a tent.

Zach crawled up and tried to get to the tent. There was that strange girl again. But he didn't care. He saw Kitt and kneeled at her side. The boy was right. Kitt was slowly waking up.

"Hey Zachy..." Kitt softly said.

"Hey..." Zach only answered. He wanted to say more, but he was too thirsty again. The mysterious not-speaking girl gave him some water. Gentile, she led him outside the tent. Zach saw the boy again.

"Let her rest." He advised. "That's best for her."

Zach looked up. It was completely dark. They must have been unconscious for hours! It was a miracle they survived. He looked around. Near the water, he saw weird looking horses. They were the size of horses, but they looked more like a gazelle with zebra-stripes.

"What are those?" Zach pointed.

The boy stood next to him. "Those? Those are our Yumoja. We travel on them. They can be as quick as the wind. And we could use that. I'm Fanen, the leader of this small pack. And you?"

Zach drank some more water. "I'm Zach. That cry baby is Derak and they are Moka and Mika. And Kitt... well... you've already found that out. What are you doing in the desert?"

"Here?" Fanen asked. "This is the only place where we are safe. We are the DayWing Rebels. We try to fight the NightWing, but are shattered throughout the planet. And you?"

"One of the Ancient Warriors tricked us. We were send here to fight against them and Queen Blackheart."

"Then you are my friend." Fanen smacked him on the back. "Maybe with your help we can get Vena on the throne."

"Who is Vena?" They heard and turned around.

"Kitt!" Zach ran towards her and hugged her firmly.

'I'll never understand this boy', Kitt thought.

"Glad you could join us." Fanen continued. "Princess Vena is the heir to the throne. She isn't evil like her mother, but everybody tells her she is. So she doubts a lot. With her, Umbra 6 will soon be free."

Suddenly, Derak cried louder and louder. "Lizzy!" He cried. "He broke your glasses!" Then he dove to Moka. "I'm going to kill you for that!"

At that moment, a something had touched him. Derak became calm and looked back. It was that girl again. She took the glasses and looked at it. After a few minutes, it was fixed. Derak smiled and completely cheered up. He rubbed the glasses against him like it was the most precious thing he had ever owned.

"Now that's scary." Kitt mumbled.

The girl sat down on a rock and took her flute. "Who is she?" Zach asked while she started to play.

"That? That's my sister Lyric." Fanen answered. "Queen Blackheart was jealous at her voice and took it away. She could really sing beautiful. But she still sings the most beautiful stories with her flute."

Lyric played a sad melody. All sat down to listen. "This is about the Goddess of Water. She is alone and very sad." Fanen explained. The music changed to a happier tune. "Here is when she meets the God of Fire. She is happy now, but not for long. Water and fire don't mix." Indeed, the music became a little bit sadder. "But they are bonded together." Fanen added. "Because together they created the Goddess of Ice." Lyric stopped playing. "It's a popular story at this tribe." All clapped.

"I understand why." Kitt said. "It's beautiful!"

Lyric bowed and put the flute to her mouth again. She started to play another song. "This is the song of hope." Fanen smiled. "My favourite."

A moment passed when suddenly Mika crawled to Zach and Kitt. "Hey, that looks like the song Lady Gaia hummed before we left!" She whispered.

"You are right!" Zach noticed. "I remember it now!"

Moka joined them. "How can she know it?" He asked. "Serenay Moon is so far away from here."

"Strange." Kitt mumbled. "This can't be a coincidence. You think Lady Gaia has been here?" Lyric stopped playing. All clapped again. Kitt bowed to Fanen. "Fanen, could I ask you something?"

"Sure." He answered. "What'ya wanna know?"

"That song. Where has Lyric learned to play it?"

Fanen smiled. "This song has been given from generation to generation, along with that flute. Some people claim that it originated a long time ago, from the time when the DayWing Rebels were with less people. One flute player, Ciryl, saw one night 5 large shooting stars and 1 small one. Then that song just popped in his head. That's the short version anyway."

"Oh." Kitt replied.

Kitt joined her group again, when she suddenly noticed Derak was gone. She saw he joined Lyric. "That's the first time he's interested in another girl besides me." She whispered at Zach.

"Jealous?" Zach smirked.

"Why would I?" Kitt asked annoyed. "I'm never jealous!"

"You were when I had beaten you in the Tournament." Zach smiled.

Kitt laughed. "Yeah, but today, I've finally beaten you. I'm the best!"

"No you are not. You've never beaten me!"

"I did! Just before Aletheia gave you new energy, you were defeated."

Zach turned to Moka. "Have you seen that?"

Moka shook his head. "Neither did I." Mika added.

Zach turned back to Kitt. "You must have been dreaming, because nobody has seen it."

"But I did beat you!" Kitt yelled. "Not fair! I've finally beaten you and there isn't any proof!" She started to cry. "Not fair! Not fair!"

Suddenly, Lyric stood up. "Something wrong?" Derak asked. Lyric placed her finger at her lips. Derak listened, but couldn't hear anything. "Must have been the wind." Lyric nodded and sat down.

All of a sudden, the wind started to blow really hard. "Take shelter!" Fanen ordered. "It's a desert storm!"

Zach looked into the storm. "No, it's worse! It's Aletheia!"

"What do I have to do to get rid of you pests?" She cursed.

"You'll never defeat us!" Moka yelled.

Aletheia gathered her power. "This time no mercy and no screwing up! Silent Black Blast!" With all her power, she knocked away Zach, Mika, Moka, Kitt and the DayWing Rebels against the sand. She turned to Lyric and D erak. "Now you are the only one left! Silent Black Blast!" The black and evil energy headed to Derak. Suddenly he heard a new voice.

"No!" Lyric screamed and pushed him away.

"Lyric!" Derak yelled and saw Lyric crashing against a rock. He quickly ran to her.

Lyric smiled. "Thank you...." She tried to say. "For giving back my voice...." Derak tried to push away a small tear. "Don't cry...." Lyric smiled. "It's now your turn... to play...." Her eyes closed.

Derak cried. "No!" He cried. "No! Not you!"

Aletheia laughed. "Well, life isn't fair, is it? Now stand still, so I can kill you easily." Derak saw that behind Aletheia the others tried to get up again. She hadn't killed them yet, but she did kill Lyric!

"Lyric reminded me of my sister!" He growled. "And now you are going to pay!"

"Sure..." Aletheia laughed ironically. "Silent Bla-" But she couldn't finish.

"Rumbling Voice!" Derak yelled and bashed both fists against the ground. Green energy shot to Aletheia and hit her. Aletheia screamed of agony.

"Now Zach! Do it!" Derak ordered while he still was furious.

"Zako Y Chosen!"

Fire hit Aletheia with all its power. Aletheia bashed against a tree, but stood up.

"Kitt, Moka, Mika!" Derak yelled again. "Make her pay!"

"Wave Crasher!" Kitt yelled.

"Bear Crunch!" Moka added.

"Gem Shatter!" Mika followed.

All the attacks hit Aletheia. "No!" She screamed. "I can't lose! I can't!" A blinding light followed, and when all could see again, the only thing that was left, was Aletheia's cape....

Kitt leaned on Zach. He whipped away some sweat. "That was heavy."

"Do you think she is gone?" Mika asked Moka.

Moka looked at Zach. Zach nodded. "Yes Mika, she is gone. We've finally defeated one of the 4 Ancient Warriors. Aletheia has vanished."

All cheered, but Kitt noticed Derak, sitting next to Lyric's body. She felt sorry for him. Zach noticed Derak too. "He'll get over it, if we'll be there for him."

"I'll be there for him... forever." Kitt sighed. Even though she hated to admit it, Derak had become a friend. And she never abandoned friends.

Fanen pointed towards the rising sun. "Follow the rising sun and you'll get out of the desert in no time. May the song of hope play in your hearts."

Zach shook his hand. "Don't worry. It will."

"You can count on us to free this world." Mika said cheerful.

All said goodbye and followed the rising sun. Fanen was right, in no time they saw a forest closing in. All were happy to see it and couldn't wait to enter it.

Derak still wasn't happy. He looked at the flute Fanen had given him. 'Take it', he had said, 'It was my sisters wish.' Slowly he put the flute to his lips, and started playing.

The others stopped. That song was familiar! "The song of hope!" Zach exclaimed, and all turned back. They saw Derak playing, like he had done it for years.

The song will live on forever..." Kitt smiled.
